2016 is off to a great start with a beautiful travel feature in Charleston Magazine…our first published travel piece as husband and wife team! Last year, I photographed the wedding of Liz and Gervais Hills in the Abacos, and my husband, Stratton, joined me with the pretense of exploring the historic connection between Charleston and Hope Town, a Bahamian settlement founded by Loyalist refugees after the American Revolution.

Thank you to Liz and Gervais, who introduced us to this beautiful paradise, and to Leapin Lizard’s for housing us while we were there. Now that it’s finally feeling a little bit chilly in Charleston we highly recommend Kicking Back In The Abacos!

Happy New Year!!!  I’m so thankful for all the incredible people that I was lucky enough to work with this past year. You brighten my world and made my year shine with joy.

I made many new friends through my remarkable brides and clients. I traveled in and out of the country with my camera to document love, and even had a few features in The New York Times, on Charleston travelthe Charleston food sceneHilton Head travel and a new wine seller.  What a magnificent year to remember!

It’s always an honor to get your work published in beautiful publications and today I’m celebrating the New Year with this feature in Charleston Weddings Fall/Winter 2014 issue! Wendy and Richard’s wedding was dreamy – sailing around Charleston Harbor.  It doesn’t get much more romantic than that!

The story has also been posted online at Charleston Weddings with bonus images here. Thank you so much for the love Charleston Weddings!  I’m thrilled to be a part of this gorgeous issue, which is on newsstands now!  (Hint-hint to the newly engaged couples out there)

Cheers to another beautiful year of unconditional love, light, joy and new friendships!  I still have just a few spots left for the 2015 wedding season – let’s make 2015 magical together!

It’s been such a busy spring season that I haven’t had the chance to announce yet that Shannon and Michael’s AMAZING Creek Club at I’on wedding has been featured in the latest Charleston Weddings Magazine – Summer 2014 issue! I’m unbelievably honored to be a part of this beautiful issue!  Time travels way too fast these days and it’s really hard to believe it’s been a year since these two tied the knot.  I can still remember the energy on the dance floor that evening and the circle of love that surrounded them.  I remember thinking, “they must be doing something right in their lives to be surrounded by such great people and so much genuine love.” Their deep happiness was as obvious as their love for one another.  I feel SO lucky that I get to work with the most amazing people all the time.  I love getting to know my fantastic couples and forming friendships and being there to document some of the most intimate, meaningful and emotional moments of their lives…and then I’m often sad when it’s time to say goodbye after the wedding.   However, these two came back to me!  Just the other day Shannon and Michael drove back down to Charleston for a one-year anniversary session.  As I’m editing those photos now, I can’t even tell you how big that makes my heart smile! Now, go grab a copy of the great Charleston Weddings Magazine and let the beautiful pages inspire you! Happy anniversary Shannon and Michael!!!

Hello again blog world!  It’s been a long time since I’ve written but I thought I’d check in this morning since I have some great news to announce!  My photos (and Charleston) are featured in The New York Times!

Click HERE to view the pictures online and click HERE to read the article published on Sunday, November 24th, 2013.

And below are two stories I worked on earlier this year for The New York Times, which I never found a moment to blog about:

“36 Hours in Hilton Head Island, S.C. – From Water to Wildlife in Hilton Head”  Click HERE to see pictures and HERE to read the NYT article published Sunday, July 21st, 2013.

“Charleston’s Cousin Gets in the Picture”  Click HERE to see the NYT pictures published Sunday, March 24th, 2013.

Before weddings, I was a professional photojournalist for over 6 years.  I jumped around from magazine to newspaper, from state to state . . . chasing my dream.  For the longest time, I would have given anything to work for The New York Times!  Then, I found weddings and realized I had a tremendous love for them, as well.  I started my own business and jumped into weddings head first, never looking back.  I absolutely fell in love with documenting love.  And whatyaknow?  Now, when I least expect it, The New York Times has entered my life and my career. A handful of events and opportunities this year have helped me remember my love of photojournalism and my passion for documentary work.  I hope to do more of that next year!  But don’t worry brides . . . I love you very much, too!

Here’s a little bit of what’s been keeping me too busy to blog this year:

– 1 trip to Uganda to visit family (and document) the incredible and selfless medical mission work they have been doing with Palmetto Medical Initiative

– 3 assignments for The New York Times

– 27 weddings that have taken me from Hilton Head Island all the way up to beautiful Maine . . . and given me the opportunity to meet and photograph the best people on the planet!  Yes, 27, and yes, the BEST!

– countless engagement, bridal, family, maternity, newborn and senior portrait sessions . . . and even some fun fashion work for IBU and Copper Penny

– 2 trips to NYC for corporate photography with Experian (and back again next month . . . yay!)

– 1 trip to Las Vegas to photograph a fabulous, annual Experian event

– And most importantly, 1 trip to Scotland for my own wedding at the castle of my McRae ancestors!! Yes, amidst it all, somehow I actually managed to get married this year! It was magical and, truthfully, my greatest and most rewarding accomplishment.

I’ll never be able to express enough gratitude for the blessings and opportunities . . . and people that have entered my life this year. It’s not over yet, but as I am wrapping up an incredible 2013 wedding season, I am feeling particularly grateful to be able to celebrate with a feature in The New York Times.

Thank you for reading!  Hope all of you have a very Happy Thanksgiving with much to be grateful for!

I could not be more proud and am honored that a few of my fabulous brides have been featured in the Charleston Weddings Magazine Summer 2013 issue!  Congratulations to Emily + Lucas, Sonja + Nicholas, and Kitty + Charles!  I am so very happy to have been your photographer and so very happy to see your beautiful, glowing faces grace the pages of one of my favorite magazines!  Hooray to these wonderful couples for thinking outside the box and adding their own creative touches to their incredible weddings!!!  If the words are too small to see here, I encourage you to go pick up your own copy and read about their creative inspiration!!!

Hello blog world!  Boy, has it been a while!  My last blog post was 7 months ago!  Whew!  It probably seems like I have been taking a break from photography, when in reality it has been SO incredibly busy busy busy!  My blog has taken second place.  This gal’s goal for 2013 is to blog more regularly so you will all get to see these amazing people I get to work with.  So please hold me to it!!  In the meantime, please let me express how excited I am that AnnaKathryn and Ryan’s wedding at RiverOaks Charleston has been published on the Southern Weddings Magazine blog.  I could not be more thrilled to be associated with such a wonderful magazine and am honored that it has been chosen for their feature.  I must admit that my favorite surprise when reading the article was when I got to the part where AnnaKathryn responded to this question: “What is the one thing you are most happy you splurged on?” She responded with, “We are so happy we chose to go with Hunter McRae; she captured the beauty of the day and was so sweet and helpful during the whole process.”  You melt my heart, AnnaKathryn!  Thank you so much!!!  I hope all you new brides out there will enjoy finding inspiration in the uniqueness and beauty of their special day.  A big thank you goes out to the amazing ladies over at RiverOaks Charleston for doing a wonderful job and especially to Courtney Potter Cook who shared her super talented eye with me on this day!  Please click here to see the full feature and read about the details and thoughtfulness that went into this truly Southern wedding . . .
