2016 is off to a great start with a beautiful travel feature in Charleston Magazine…our first published travel piece as husband and wife team! Last year, I photographed the wedding of Liz and Gervais Hills in the Abacos, and my husband, Stratton, joined me with the pretense of exploring the historic connection between Charleston and Hope Town, a Bahamian settlement founded by Loyalist refugees after the American Revolution.

Thank you to Liz and Gervais, who introduced us to this beautiful paradise, and to Leapin Lizard’s for housing us while we were there. Now that it’s finally feeling a little bit chilly in Charleston we highly recommend Kicking Back In The Abacos!

And here are the rest of the images from Anna, Ella and Leo’s shoot in June.  Beautiful moments, beautiful souls and beautiful light!

With a small window of calm before a busy season, I am finally getting the opportunity to blog some favorite photos from a shoot with my sister, Anna, her daughter, Ella (11 months), and son, Leo (5), from June.  They live in Portland, Oregon so when they visit Charleston we make sure to get plenty of shots to tide us over until we see each other again.  This was my second chance to photograph baby Ella, the first being her newborn photos in Oregon.  I love these shots, not only because they capture tiny glimpses of her personality, which I am starting to know and which is developing quickly, but also because  they capture a precious moment in time, a moment just before she learned how to use her little, strong legs.  Such a vulnerable time . . . so completely dependent on mommy, daddy and brother Leo.  Already, 7 months later, she is a walking (running), talking bundle of joy who will never go back to this stage in life.  In her life story, she has flipped the page to a brand new chapter.  A chapter full of curiosity, learning, laughter and adventure.  I’m so glad we took the time to do this and capture this stage for her to look back on forever.  My other sister’s daughter, Adlai (5), was my assistant for the day and makes an appearance in a couple of the shots, too.  It is such a privilege for me to capture all of the members of my family and I look forward to a lifetime of documenting such beautiful subjects who are near and dear to my heart.  This time around, we had three (!) sessions so I’ll continue Part II in anther post. Enjoy!

Jan 23, 2012

I would like to give a big THANK YOU to all of the wonderful individuals who I was fortunate enough to work with and get to know over the past year.  2011 was an incredible year of growth for { Hunter McRae Photography } and I am extremely grateful for each and every one of you who make it possible for me to do what I love to do . . . who put their trust in me to capture their most important stories and moments in life.  I’m looking forward to the amazing shoots I already have in store for 2012 and, yet again, feel blessed to be working in amazing places with amazing people.  Some corporate shoots in NYC and LA are coming up soon, along with bridal and engagement sessions in preparation for a BIG spring wedding season in Charleston, Savannah and the mountains of North Carolina.  Once March hits . . . it’s weddings galore and no turning back!  It’s going to be a fun and full year, indeed, and I can’t wait to see the stories I get to tell!

My business is not the only thing that is growing, as my family keeps adding adorable members.  Ella was the most recent addition and we wouldn’t be complete without her!  Everyone is completely in love and constantly entertained.  To the little newbies, I’m known as “Aunt Hunah” and I couldn’t be happier about it.  Living in Charleston, again, surrounded by the love and support of some of my best friends and family has been priceless.  My boyfriend, Stratton, is a source of constant support and I couldn’t be luckier to have him in my life.  We both have an insatiable drive for adventure, stories and new experiences but if it weren’t for his motivation, I’d probably just edit, edit, edit my life away.  He makes sure there is plenty of fun to be had and much in life to be explored.

Thank you Stratton, Lynn and Bob, for offering your eye and camera skills on this shoot!  It never would have happened without you!  And thank you to my beautiful family for wanting to be together and creating these memories to last a lifetime. Happy New Year, everyone!  Let’s make 2012 great!
