Hunter McRae is an award-winning photographer and multimedia journalist based in Charleston, South Carolina.  She produced photography, audio slideshows and video at the Savannah Morning News in Georgia before relocating to Charleston. Other experience includes photo editing for National Geographic Adventure magazine, photojournalism for the Longmont Daily Times-Call,  The Colorado Springs Gazette and Charleston City Paper.
She has worked on online documentary projects in South Africa (www.tenyearson.org) China (www.globalmesengers.org) and Spain (www.theancientway.org) through the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication where she graduated in 2004.
The projects have won several awards, including a 2006 Bronze Medal from the Society for News Design and first place for multimedia from the National Press Photographers Association’s Best of Photojournalism competition in 2004 and second place for multimedia from the Pictures of the Year International in 2004. She has also received awards from the Hearst Photojournalism Competition, National Press Photographers Association’s Women in Photojournalism Competition, Georgia Press Association and Georgia Associated Press Association for her still photography.  In 2009 she was named the top photographer of Morris Communications, recognized as one of the largest mid-sized media companies in the nation.
She has been invited to teach photojournalism  classes to university students at Savannah College of Art and Design and Armstrong Atlantic State University.
Hunter continues to develop her personal vision and believes passionately in the power of photography and strong multimedia storytelling. She is available for weddings and freelance commercial/editorial assignments around the globe.
